Family Support in Business

Please do business only if you have your family support then only your business will grow to the heights, but nowadays the present generation do have their family support.

Sangeetha Narayanan, Founder, EKAIKA

Balance, Learn, and Risk

Absolutely. My advice to young women aspiring to be entrepreneurs or already on this journey is multifaceted. Firstly, recognize the importance of balancing personal and professional life. Achieving success doesn't have to come at the expense of your well-being. Prioritize self-care and maintain a healthy work-life equilibrium.

Secondly, continuously enhance your skills. The business landscape is dynamic, and staying relevant requires constant learning. Invest time in acquiring new knowledge, staying abreast of industry trends, and honing your expertise.

Create a robust support system. Surround yourself with mentors, advisors, and a network of like-minded individuals. A strong support system provides guidance, encouragement, and a sounding board for your ideas.

Don't hesitate to step forward and take risks. Entrepreneurship often involves navigating uncharted waters. Embrace challenges, be fearless in pursuing opportunities, and trust your instincts.

While pursuing your entrepreneurial journey, never forget to focus on yourself and your health. Success is holistic, encompassing physical and mental well-being. Take breaks, stay active, and prioritize your overall health. In essence, being a woman entrepreneur is about embracing your unique strengths, continuously evolving, and fearlessly navigating challenges. Strive for success while maintaining a harmonious and fulfilling life.

Collaboration Over Competition

What I have learnt is collaboration is a much stronger tool to grow than to compete. Rooting for each other and enabling each other not only grows the ecosystem but also channels the over all future growth.

Find and Follow Inspirational Mentors

My advice would be to find a mentor or another entrepreneurial figure who inspires you and follow their path to success as a guide for you. Don't be afraid of failing as the outcome, failing is the path to success and never stop trying!

Barbara Leon, Founder, Heleo Architecture + Design

Choose the Right Opportunities

This is a great question - and there is definitely not a one size fits all answer! I would say, surround yourself with good, trustworthy mentors (women, or men!) that can continue to help you reach your potential. It sounds cliche, but finding the right people who you can glean important lessons from when it comes to emotional intelligence, work ethic, and knowledge transfer is paramount to one's success. From my own experience, I could not have gotten to where I am (leading a proptech company while pursuing a PhD at UofT!) if I didn't have a couple key people in my corner, helping to steer me in the right direction. And then - know when to say yes, and now when to say no. Sometimes, there are great opportunities but they are not the right fit for you. Other times, there are great opportunities that will take a lot of grit and resilience to achieve. Listening to your inner voice alongside external advice to try new things and find your path is important!

Build Confidence Through Networking

As a young woman, myself, I still have lots to learn- the biggest advice from my experience would be to learn what makes you feel confident! For me, I found my confidence through building a network of fellow female entrepreneurs that share similar goals, values, and struggles. Regularly talking with my fellow entrepreneurs, I've learned that it's normal to have failures, and having a sounding board where you can express your frustrations and feel energized to work through finding solutions has been a GAME. CHANGER. It has allowed me to be confident that I'm doing the right thing and that I have the ability and the support to get through anything. Most people want to help you. Don't be afraid to ask for it!
