How Eunice Maeshibe Marema is Brewing Opportunity, Empowering Communities, and Transforming Lives Through Coffee

For many people, coffee is simply a daily ritual.

For Eunice Maeshibe Marema, coffee represents something much bigger—hope, opportunity, dignity, and economic empowerment.

As the Founder and CEO of Maeshibe Coffee, Eunice has built more than a beverage business. She has created a purpose-driven enterprise that uses coffee as a tool to create employment, develop skills, and inspire communities across Africa.

Her entrepreneurial journey is deeply personal—one shaped by hardship, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring that others have opportunities she never had growing up.

A Vision Born from Personal Experience

Eunice was born in Zebediela, a small village in South Africa's Limpopo Province, where access to basic resources was limited.

Growing up in poverty taught her lessons that no classroom ever could.

She understands what it means to go to bed hungry, to face uncertainty, and to dream of a better future despite difficult circumstances.

Rather than allowing those experiences to define her, she transformed them into purpose.

In 2019, she founded Maeshibe Coffee with a clear mission:

To use business as a vehicle for creating employment, reducing poverty, and empowering people through skills development.

Today, the company provides hot beverage solutions by supplying premium coffee beans, coffee machines, and complete beverage solutions to both businesses and individual customers.

Beyond selling coffee, Maeshibe Coffee is helping build careers through barista training, equipping people with valuable skills that can open doors to long-term employment and entrepreneurship.

Business with a Purpose

From the very beginning, Maeshibe Coffee was never intended to become just another coffee brand.

Its purpose has always been rooted in social impact.

Eunice believes businesses should create opportunities while generating profits, and every milestone achieved by the company reflects that philosophy.

One of the most remarkable examples came during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Serving Those Who Served the Nation

When South Africa entered Level 5 Lockdown in 2020, frontline workers carried enormous responsibility while the country faced unprecedented uncertainty.

Instead of focusing solely on business survival, Eunice chose to serve those serving the nation.

She launched the Free Coffee Campaign, an initiative dedicated to supporting frontline personnel working long hours under extremely challenging conditions.

For more than two months, Maeshibe Coffee provided free coffee to over 1,000 soldiers and traffic officers stationed at roadblocks and public safety checkpoints across the country.

The initiative received the endorsement of the Log Support Formation, one of the divisions of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

While coffee may seem like a simple gesture, for exhausted frontline workers it represented appreciation, encouragement, and human connection during one of the most difficult periods in recent history.

It also demonstrated that successful businesses can make meaningful contributions to society, even during times of crisis.

Changing the Future of African Coffee

Eunice's vision extends far beyond South Africa.

She dreams of building partnerships with passionate coffee farmers across Africa while helping make coffee farming more accessible to rural communities.

Her long-term mission is to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation that strengthens Africa's coffee industry from the ground up.

Perhaps most importantly, she wants to challenge one of the industry's oldest misconceptions:

Coffee is not reserved for a privileged social class.

Through Maeshibe Coffee, she continues proving that someone from a rural village can build a respected coffee brand and inspire others to pursue opportunities in the global coffee industry.

Recognition that Inspires Greater Impact

Eunice's work has not gone unnoticed.

In 2024, she was recognized among the Mail & Guardian's 200 Most Influential Young South Africans, a prestigious recognition celebrating individuals making significant contributions to business, leadership, and society.

The recognition reflects not only her entrepreneurial success but also her commitment to

creating positive social impact through business.

Overcoming Business Challenges

Like many growing businesses, Maeshibe Coffee has faced its share of obstacles.

One of the biggest challenges has been gaining access to major retail markets.

Breaking into established retail channels requires persistence, credibility, and continuous relationship-building.

Rather than viewing this challenge as a setback, Eunice continues strengthening her brand, expanding partnerships, and focusing on delivering exceptional products and customer experiences.

Her journey demonstrates that sustainable growth often comes through patience and consistency rather than shortcuts.

Advice for Women Entrepreneurs

Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, Eunice offers a message that is simple yet incredibly powerful:

"Be consistent in what you have started. Show up boldly for your brand, and the rest will follow."

Her advice reminds aspiring entrepreneurs that success rarely happens overnight.

Consistency, courage, and belief in your vision are often the greatest competitive advantages any founder can possess.

Why Eunice Maeshibe Marema Stands Out

Eunice Maeshibe Marema is building much more than a coffee company.

She is creating opportunities.

She is empowering communities.

She is challenging stereotypes.

She is proving that businesses can generate both economic value and meaningful social impact.

Through Maeshibe Coffee, she continues inspiring a new generation of African entrepreneurs to dream bigger, lead with purpose, and use business as a force for positive change.
