In the landscape of social entrepreneurship, few stories epitomize the spirit of resilience and hope as profoundly as that of Dawn Marie Rapaport. Once a victim of homelessness, Dawn’s enlightening journey culminated in the establishment of the Homeless Engagement Lift Partnership (H.E.L.P.), an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children. Through her lived experience, she has forged a path that not only aids those in immediate need but also exemplifies the power of community activism.

Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness

Founded in 2012, H.E.L.P. arose from the stark realities of Dawn’s life. Her experiences provided her with an acute awareness of the myriad challenges homeless individuals face—profound challenges that would later fuel her resolve to champion change. Instilling core values of empathy, action, and hope, H.E.L.P.'s mission is clear: to break the cycle of homelessness by providing essential resources that serve as both nourishment and encouragement.

The Genesis of H.E.L.P.

Starting a nonprofit is no small feat, especially with limited resources. However, armed with passion and an unwavering commitment to make a difference, Dawn embarked on her journey with small yet impactful initiatives. Her first project, H.E.L.P. Snackz, involved the creation of non-perishable snack bags filled not only with food but also with handwritten inspirational messages. This initiative alone serves as a poignant reminder to at-risk children: they are seen, valued, and loved.

Programs that Make a Difference

H.E.L.P. does not merely operate as a charity; it seeks to rebuild the emotional and physical welfare of children experiencing homelessness. The organization focuses on:

  • Food Security: Ensuring that no child goes hungry by distributing snack bags directly to schools and shelters.

  • Emotional Support: Using inspirational messages as a lifeline, reminding children of their inherent worth despite difficult circumstances.

  • Community Connection: Fostering a network of support through volunteer and local organization engagement.

A Collaborative Effort

The success of H.E.L.P. is not solely attributed to Dawn’s vision; it thrives on community involvement and generous donations.

“Together, we can ensure no child feels invisible,” she emphasizes, highlighting the crucial partnership between the organization and the community at large. Various individuals, businesses, and local organizations contribute funds, volunteer time, and help spread awareness, solidifying the collective impact of H.E.L.P.

Remarkable Achievements and Impact

Since its inception, H.E.L.P. has made significant strides in combating childhood homelessness:

  • 25,000 snack bags distributed monthly to children in need.

  • Effective partnerships with schools, shelters, and community organizations to widen its reach.

  • A network of committed volunteers fostering a sense of community and support.

In 2024, the organization touched the lives of 350 families and over 2,300 individuals, delivering 6,000+ gifts through the power of community.

Dawn Marie’s journey is a testament to how one person’s determination can inspire collective action. The call to action for potential supporters is clear: volunteer, donate, or spread awareness about H.E.L.P. Everyone has a role to play in making sure that no child feels invisible.
